How I Stay Motivated as an Author

“Motivation is the engine that drives us towards success. Without it, we may never take that first step or overcome the inevitable hurdles that come our way.” – Joshua Becker

As a mother, wife, and aspiring author, I understand the challenges of balancing multiple roles and responsibilities while still pursuing your dreams. It can be tough to stay motivated when you have a million things on your plate, but trust me, it’s worth it! In this post, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite tips for finding balance, staying motivated, and making time for a little dream following. So grab a cup of tea (or a glass of wine, no judgment here either way) and let’s dive in!

The first step I take towards staying motivated is to give myself permission to prioritize my passion. Every day, no matter how busy I am, I make it a point to set aside some time to work on my next writing project. It could be as little as a 30 minutes, but it’s enough to help me make progress and feel like I’m moving forward. I’ve found that, if you are consistent, all of those minutes can add up to big results

I also set achievable goals for myself, whether it’s writing a chapter or spending time doing research. I find, it can be overwhelming to think about the entire project at once, so I break it down into smaller, more manageable goals. And you know what? I celebrate every step of the way! Even if I don’t meet my goals every single day, I don’t beat myself up about it. The fact that I’m making progress towards my passion is what counts, and that’s what keeps me going.

Another activity that helps keep me on track is connecting with a community of like-minded people. Building a support system has been crucial for me to stay motivated. I’ve joined a writing group and I’m always chatting with other writers and book lovers on social media. It’s so helpful to surround myself with motivated individuals who understand the struggle and can offer support and encouragement. Plus, they always have a good book recommendation or two, which is never a bad thing!

Last but certainly not least, I take a moment to reflect on why I started writing in the first place. I remind myself that I have a story to tell, one that comes from deep within me and I believe that words have the power to inspire and connect us all. I know that my words have the ability to make a difference, to impact people’s lives in a positive way. And let me tell you, that thought alone keeps me motivated and focused on my goals. It’s not just about me anymore, it’s about the impact I can have on the world through my writing.

Remember, when it comes to pursuing your passion, it’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. Take the time to be kind to yourself and celebrate each and every step you take towards your goals. Find what works for you and don’t be afraid to make adjustments along the way. And most importantly, don’t give up. Your passion is worth fighting for, even if it means sacrificing some Netflix time. Keep pushing forward, and before you know it, you’ll be living the life you’ve always dreamed of.
