My Summer Bucket List

Embracing Summer Fun

Our Family Bike Riding in Summer 2017

As a mother of teens, I’ve come to cherish these fleeting summer breaks more than ever. You know, the ones where the days are long, the nights are warm, and the kids are still willing to hang out with you (at least sometimes). It’s a bittersweet reality, watching them grow up, knowing that each summer could be the last one where they’re still my little adventure buddies.

A few years ago, in true Virgo fashion, I decided to start a family summer bucket list. It was my way of ensuring we squeezed every ounce of fun, laughter, and memory-making out of our time together. And let’s be honest, it also helped me keep track of all the crazy things we wanted to do but would inevitably forget without a list.

So, without further ado, here’s our 2024 summer bucket list. It’s a mix of old favorites, new adventures, and a few heartwarming activities that remind us to give back and appreciate what we have.

  1. Bonfire at the Beach: Nothing beats roasting marshmallows and sharing stories by the ocean.
    1. Universal Studios Adventure: Experience the magic of movies and ride the thrills.
    2. Take a Pottery Class: Get your hands dirty and create something uniquely yours.
    3. Classic Movie Night: Enjoy timeless films with popcorn and cozy blankets.

    18. Take the Train to Old Town San Diego: Travel back in time and explore historic sites.
    19. Vintage Clothes Shopping at a Thrift Store: Hunt for unique finds and embrace sustainable fashion.
    20. Sunset Picnic at the Beach: Enjoy a meal with a view as the sun sets over the horizon.
    21. Summer Reading Challenge:
      • 1 book by an author with the same first name as you: Connect with a namesake’s story.
      • 1 coming-of-age book: Relive the journey of growing up.
      • 1 book set in summer: Feel the warmth and nostalgia of summer days.
      • 1 book set in another country: Travel the world through the pages.
      • 1 additional book of your choice: Pick a wild card and enjoy the surprise.

As we start this summer journey, I’m reminded of how these moments, big and small, weave the fabric of our family story. We laugh, we learn, and sometimes we even argue over who really won that last board game. But in the end, it’s these shared experiences that shape our memories and bond us together.

So here’s to making the most of these precious summer breaks. To embracing every adventure, savoring every ice cream cone, and capturing every sunset. Because these are the days we’ll look back on with a smile and maybe a tear or two, knowing we made the most of our time together.
